My Day

This book is about Eleanor Roosevelt, the book encompasses what she has written over her lifetime and takes the best of what she has had. The author of the book does a great job at not only just putting the information just infront of the reader but also explains some background of the article so the reader can comprehend what is going on.
The book covers a lot of aspects of Eleanor Roosevelt that reveals that this woman had a lot of depth and complexity about her. She is seen as an advocate for those in America that are oppressed and served as a symbol to rally behind for ideals.
The beginnings of the book involved her and the depression. Some of the stories did not turn out about her being involved with the depression but involved her living a daily life in the white house. One particular story was when she came back to the White House she noticed some of her relatives taking a swim without hesitation she jumped in too, and encouraged everyone to have a great day. She served during that time as a socialite.
During the war years her role as the first lady became very important. World War II required the sacrifice of every citizen doing their part. She encouraged women who stayed behind in the states to do their part, she inspired the role for "we can do it Rosie". She encouraged the women staying behind to take up the jobs their husbands and sons left. She also encouraged women to save fat in the kitchen. Why was fat important? it served as a main ingredient to make gun powder. She was upset that some women would ask what they can do to help with the war effort and yet there was poor follow through.
She also was viewed as a mother that supported her sons. she was not invulnerable from the war and that compelled her to understand what other mothers were going through because their sons are out fighting the same wars that her were.
The last section of the book covers her as the first lady. While this book has done more then enough of proving what an amazing leader she is it covers her during the post years. This section she her resilience to still write even though she was immensely busy. Several stories had simple posts about her day yet some posts were about her experiences as a first lady.
Overall this book has a lot to share about someone that can be so easily be overlooked in history. Eleanor Roosevelt was a woman that embodied a lot of positive traits that should be mimicked more often.
